     The 911 Public Safety Department is comprised of the 911 Center and Emergency Management for the City of Pikeville. The department currently employ's seven full time and one part-time employee. The 911 Center handles Police, Fire/EMS, Animal Control, and after hours utilities. In 2009, the center took 15,504 calls for service. Each employee is a certified Telecommunicator through KY. Department of Criminal Justice Training in Richmond, KY. They are trained in Basic Telecommunication, Critical Incidents, CPR, Emergency Medical Dispatch, and Criminal Justice Information System. Each employee also attends annual re-training. In the fall of 2008, the department completed a state of the art renovation of the Center at a total cost of approx. $400,000. The department utilizes InterAct Computer Dispatch System, ModuComm 911/Radio system, and DSS Equature recording system.
